In uncertain, anxious times, when you’re wondering what life means, it’s easy to miss the joy of small things.
Out of the blue, I’m struck by something funny or odd. Or I have a flash of understanding, a sudden emotion, a glimpse into the hidden or unconscious world. These transient moments are happening all the time, and they encapsulate something, but if I don’t give them attention, if I don’t make a note, they’re gone, and I forget. A few scribbled words on a scrap of paper – that’s enough to bring a moment back, and then I can write about it.
My recent writings
My young daughter and her best friend were on a residential pottery course in north Lancashire. One evening we visited the coast just south of Morecombe Bay and I had a clear-thinking moment.
I love it when this sort of thing happens – to me or someone else.
