I’m interested in how human beings relate to the natural world – I don’t often describe wildlife, plants or places for their own sakes. Knowingly or unwittingly, because of need or greed, or out of ignorance, we’ve rendered our planet frail. We profess to love it, but we’re endangering its future, and with it our own. We all have the power, in small ways, to make things worse or mitigate the damage.
I had good company, beautiful surroundings, acres of space and fresh air, sheep, ducks, geese and wildlife, during the lockdown. But what would I do? How would I fill my time?
Does the death of a pigeon matter? They’re common – they’re pests.
I wanted to say this out loud to a picnicking family on the riverbank.
